For Our Elders

These portraits were made during NAIDOC Community Day on Darkinjung land, hosted by Yerin Eleanor Duncan Aboriginal Health Services. The 2023 theme, For Our Elders, recognised the cultural custodians and community leaders whose strength and guidance sustain generations. At the centre of the gathering was the possum skin cloak — a powerful symbol of identity, kinship and cultural continuity. Traditionally worn for warmth and ceremony, possum skin cloaks are inscribed with story, Country and belonging. These images document moments of pride, intergenerational exchange and cultural strength — reflecting the enduring presence of Culture on Darkinjung land.
